Ghosts in the Airport

A very recent, very strange experience happened to me in the airport. I was waiting for my flight to Florida to help my aunt move, and they were finally boarding. A woman across from me asked a question about her zone, and I tried to help her out. People tend to talk to me - a lot - and this was no different. She was visibly upset, and explained she was flying down to Florida to go to her brother’s funeral. She explained how he passed, and how they were close. Eventually, we line up and are making our way down the jetway.

Traffic got backed up, so we were standing there, waiting to reach the plane. She started talking to me again. I turned to look at her as we chatted, and suddenly he was there beside her. Her brother. I knew instantly it was him. She had given no physical description whatsoever, but I knew it was him. He was a big guy, short wavy brown hair, tall, kind face. It startled me to see this, so I immediately turned away and said nothing more to this woman.

I should have asked her if that was what he looked like. I should have told her he was here for her because he knew she hated to fly. But instead I froze and turned away, too shocked to help her see her brother by her side. This was the first time anything like this had ever happened to me. I hope it isn’t the last. Next time I will be better prepared (I think).

When I bought our house, I won’t say I didn’t hope it was haunted. A house with 100 years of history has its chances of housing a spirit or two.  But since moving in three years ago, very little has happened. Only one thing really caught me off guard.
I came home and parked in the garage, as I normally do. My cat Hemingway hears the garge door and will usually run to the door and wait for who ever is coming inside. So when I walked in, I saw him on the stairs and started talking to him. I closed and locked the door, and then turned to him and reached to pet him. But my hand just went through the air because no cat was there. The entry way in from the garage is dark, but there is plenty of light from the kitchen which is just 3 stairs away. I clearly saw a cat sitting on the stair, so clearly I reached for him. But nothing was there. I then heard my real cat, in the kitchen, meow for me. It was very strange.
Its strangeness is mainly in how completely sure I was that he was there. I feel comfortable in my house, and love being there. I welcome this little mysterious feline into it.
PS the image I used is from the movie House, which is absolutely one of the most amazing horror movies of all time.

What’s With the Touching

I actually physically feel people who aren’t there a lot.

I went with friends to an overnight ghost hunt at Mansfield Reformatory. We were checking out the living quarters, and my friend Erin and I were checking out the closets - they have amazing built-ins that I would love in my house. As I was discussing the awesomeness of the closets, I was shoulder to shoulder with Erin (the closets, while nice, weren’t huge so we were in close quarters).

But then Erin said something about the place, and she was in the room. Not the closet. I was still shoulder to shoulder with something. Without thinking, I jumped from the closet - and my invisible companion - and into the middle of the room. I immediately got my head about me, and went back in the closet and nothing was there.

I wasn’t touching a wall, or anything hanging down. Not only did I check that nothing was in the closet, whatever was against my shoulder was warm, fleshy, human. Had Erin not spoken from so far away, I would never have realized something strange was happening. Unless I had glanced over to the warm buddy to see no one was there.

The Facilities

I had a couple friends who lived in this huge, beautiful old apartment building here in Cincinnati. I was over there one night, hanging out - normal stuff. I had to use the bathroom, so off I went. I do my thing, and start to wash my hands.

Their bathroom was the typical small three piece typical of apartments in this city. Bath/shower along the back wall, toilet and sink across from each other along the outside of the tub. So as I stood to wash my hands, the toilet is about a foot behind me. Suddenly I feel someone pressed against my back. I feel this so distinctly that I immediately jerk my head up to see who it was in the mirror above the sink. But no one was there. I dried my hands, but as I did I started to feel super helpless and sad. Overwhelmingly so. My hands were dry enough - I left the little room.

When I came back into the kitchen where my friends were all sitting, the color was drained from my face, and I simply said, “Someone is in your bathroom.”

That’s when they told me a past tenant had killed himself in that room. I hung out at their place many times after that, but I always held it.

I also had an invisable hand grab my butt in that room. Hahaha.

Switching Rooms

When I was growing up, I had the smaller bedroom and my older brother had the larger one. It didn’t bother me, since I was smaller, too. When he was 12, he decided to move in with his dad, leaving his room vacant. It didn’t occur to me to upgrade until this weird turn of events happened.

One night, I woke up in the middle of the night. I was laying there, deciding if I should get up and go to the bathroom, or just try to go back to sleep. I rolled over and noticed light coming through my door and thought, “Well, the bathroom light is on, so I guess I will go.” The bathroom was directly across the hall from my room, and we often kept that light on at night. My door - which was badly beaten from years of brother/sister brawls - was no longer solid enough to keep that light out.

I got up, walked to my door, opened it, walked accross the hall and opened the bathroom door, turned on the light, did my thing in there, came back out and turned the light back out. As I flipped that switch back down, it occurred to me that I had had to turn it on after all, and I got that creepy feeling in my legs like something was about to catch me and I should run. I decided I should check if the kitchen (just to the right of my bedroom) had any lights on which could explain it. It was pitch dark, as was the whole house. So I ran to bed and drew my covers up and called it a night.

This had really piqued my curiosity, tho, so the next night, I stayed up late hoping to see the light turn on and catch whatever the cause was. At some point in the night, a light faded on. I had expected a quick event, like the flipping of the switch I did the night before. But this was much slower, as if someone walking at a snails pace holding a candle. There was no flicker to the light, however, and once it was at it’s full brightness it didn’t fade. I watched this for about 30 minutes before deciding to check it out. I walked out of my room to no lights in the house at all. Nothing outside my door, nothing anywhere glowing anything. I returned to my bed, and there was no longer any light coming in.

This happened every night that week. At some point the light would fade back into existence, if I checked it would go out, if I laid there it stayed lit. I started to come up with scenarios that could explain it. At some point, however, I convinced myself that the glow wasn’t a light, but a spirit waiting for me at my door. I guess it is as good a time as any to mention I was 7 years old when this all happened - and completely allowed to jump to conclusions like this due to my age. Once I had that creepy thought in my mind, it didn’t take me too long to commandeer the larger room - in fact I moved in to it that weekend. I never saw the light again.

I don’t know what caused the light, and I would have completely dismissed it if it wasn’t consistant. I never stayed in that room again (more because I out grew it and eventually moved out of my parents house of course) but maybe I will spend the night there again and see what happens in the night.

My experiences at the Old South Pittsburg Hospital in Tennessee
The weekend before last, Eric and I drove to southern Tennessee to the Old South Pittsburg Hospital to hunt ghosts for two nights. The place was amazing, the footage we have to go through is enormous, and our personal experiences were pretty rad.
Since we haven’t watched the 48 hours of 16 cameras we have to go through, I can only tell you what we experienced first hand. But I will follow up once we go through everything and hopefully have stuff to show you.
OSPH was immediately impressive. It is maze-like and much more hospital than abandoned. While on the tour of the place, Beth and I made eye contact after both witnessing what looked like a man peak out of a hall or doorway, as if trying to see what we were up to. Since Beth and I have been in these types of situations before, a simple head nod meant, “Yep, I saw it too, this hall is on the list.”  We continued on the tour til we ended up at the other end of the hall.  The man who lives there was telling us, “Within hours of being here the first day, I started calling this shadow hallway because I am always seeing someone peak around at me like this…” and he demonstrated exactly what Beth and I had seen.  At that moment Eric exclaims, “That’s what I saw!”  We had no idea that he had seen it, too!  It was pretty amazing.  I saw other things down this hallway - mostly during the day - through the investigation but nothing where three people saw it at the same time.
Later during the first night, we had split into two groups. There were four of us on the third floor which had been the psyche ward as well as maternity. We were in one of the rooms when a door slammed closed just down the hall.  Or at least the sound of a door was slammed. The door we had come through earlier had been quietly closed as we went through it, and there was no reason (or explanation) for a door to slam.
Apparently this place is CRAZY for EVPs, so we have lots of audio to listen to, and all the video I mentioned before. I am hoping in some of the video you can see the shadow people we all saw.  This location was super amazing, and I really hope I get a chance to get back there again - and soon.
Check out this thermal video that was taken by another team which had investigated at OSPH. This is the most amazing thermal hit I have ever seen in my life.
Check out the OSPH website and look at all the AMAZING footage and EVPs they have caught. It doesn’t take much convincing that this place is the real deal. For whatever reasons, the hospital closed but the patients just haven’t decided to leave.

The Oxford Light

On a lighter note (har har har), this is my experience with the Oxford Light.

The story goes like this: young man gives his heart to a lucky lady before being drafted and going away to war. While he is gone, said girl falls for someone else and the young man comes home to find out his heart was broken. (I have also heard it was something to do with the parents not liking him and forbidding her to see him again). He rides his motorcycle to her family’s house to plea his case but gets no where. So he leaves, an emotional mess, and speeds away - but doesn’t make the 90 degree turn just down the road and dies. Sometimes they say he was decapitated, sometimes they don’t.  Now if you go to that bend in the road, turn off your car and flash your lights, you will see his motorscycle headlight appear at her driveway and speed toward you where he died.

I went to the light probably about 6 times. The first 5 times, nothing happened. Well nothing except being scared that one of the locals who is tired of dealing with kids turning his road into a game every weekend would seek revenge and hurt us, scare us, or otherwise make me uncomfortable. Turns out I am much more scared of strangers than ghosts. But the last time I went, I experienced something.

We did the routine. Car off, flash lights.  Ahead of us, a dim light showed up, and well all were like “oh god, there is a flashlight, I bet they HATE all of us coming here and flashing our lights all night.”  So we turn the car back on to get going and not disturb the neighbor who was clearly sick of us. But when we turned the car on, there was no one there and the light disappeared.

Now, that isn’t some life changing ghost story or anything, but I really do think that we saw it.

But…. since I come from a prove-it point of view, I feel I need to note some things about the legend of the light. First off, this story and phenomena certainly happens A LOT. I am sure there are a ton of different cities, different roads with the same story. Young man + motorcycle + broken heart = ghost time apparently.  With so many occurances, I can’t help but think this has some natural explination. Like cry baby bridges. The stories are often tragic, the effect is certainly creepy - but there are like 100 cry baby bridges in Ohio alone and it can be simply explained away naturally.

So yea, I don’t know what to think of the Oxford Light. I would love to go again to the see it with a local who has also experienced the phenomena. Anyone from Cincinnati done this?

This is the scariest thing I have ever experienced.
A friend of mine and I often would include the Moscow (Ohio… not Russia) Cemetery as part of our spooky driving excursions. I liked this cemetery because the road up to it is insanely curvy, one lane, and in the woods. So you weave in and out of a forest and then suddenly you are at the top, in an open field filled with gravestones. There were often deer and fireflies, and it was a little spooky.
One night, we had no real plans and had decided to just drive around - a pretty typical plan for us, actually. He decided he wanted to borrow his dad’s car, which was much nicer than his. So off we went, driving around.
At some point we ended up at the Moscow Cemetery. Like I said, we had been there before. But this night, as we pulled into the clearing, it felt different. As we parked, I told my friend I wasn’t getting out. It was summer, and warm out, but I felt cold and just… heavy. He told me he wanted to check something out on one of the edges of the clearing, and I told him I would wait in the car.
If you look at the picture, you can see the little road that loops through the grave yard. We were parked near that fence bit just before the curve. Whatever my friend had decided to “check” was off towards the edge where all the trees are. Here, this will be easier:

I was in the passenger seat, and I was getting antsy wishing he would come back to the car so we could leave. The air just felt so strange and somehow angry. I was staring out the driver’s side window, trying to find him in the darkness to see if he was on his way back to the car. I was seeing movement, so I was really trying to focus on it, leaning towards the window, staring at it. Suddenly I could make out the distinct movement of something running, FULL SPEED, directly at me. But I could only see the edges of it because it was clear. It was like I could only see the places where this thing disturbed the air. As I am realizing this it hits me OMG IT IS RUNNING FULL SPEED DIRECTLY AT ME. I jump into the driver’s side and roll up the window (of course it was manual windows when I needed it to go up quickly). The whole time I am staring at this thing running at me. I get the window up, and this thing hits the window and just becomes a puff of smoke. I jump back into my seat and stare FORWARD until Josh gets back in the car.
He can tell I am really shaken, so he starts heading back down the hill on the twisty road. He asks me what happened and I just said, “Something really scary..” I didn’t want to talk about it til I was away from the cemetery, somewhere safe. As we went down the hill, my window started to fog up. I am sure I was breathing pretty heavy, since I was so freaked out, so I don’t think the window fog was necessarily paranormal. But the road was dark so all I could see was that it was fogging up. At the bottom of the road, there is a street light, and as we pulled into its glow, we could see that written across my window in big capital letters was the word DIE.
In order to take the car out, we told his dad we would clean and detail it. So before we had gone anywhere, we had taken it to the car wash and scrubbed the crap outta it. We vacuumed, and waxed, and cleaned the windows and windshields inside and out. There was nothing on those windows before we drove up that hill. It was ridiculous. I was so freaked out, that I just didn’t talk all the way back to his house where I insisted on simply cuddling with his cat til I wasn’t scared anymore.
When I told my friends (who all liked to ghost hunt with me) about what happened, they all wanted to go see the place. I didn’t want to go back, but I took them anyway. The cemetery never ever felt that evil again. We had other experiences there - voices, weird unexplainable lights, etc - but it was always lighter and never scary. I wonder if it was the person I had gone there with. I never asked him what he was “checking” on outside the car. To be honest, I don’t want to know. Because whatever it was sent something running for me and I can never unsee that. Even if that energy is cleared of the cemetery, it is not cleared from my memory.
